Session 5: Whole School Development

By the end of this unit, participants will be able to:

  • Plan a Change Project related to the positively contributing to the systems on Earth.
  • Identify key stakeholders for implementation of a change projects at school.
  • Describe relevant activities for the planning of change projects at a public school.
  • Develop projects related to the study of Earth Systems and the care for the school environment.

To plan to link your study of the ‘Earth Systems’ to your ‘Whole School Development’ practices. Please design a project with your learners whereby they create an ecosystem within a bottle (Bottle Terrarium). Click the video link below to view a model of this:

Your terrarium should make use of re-used and recycled materials. Show how learners will form an important part of the Change Project process. Submit your project document and evidence in the form of pictures of the ‘Bottle Terrarium’.

Share your project with other teachers and learners at your school. Propose that each classroom at the school have a Bottle Terrarium, you may have a competition and the best terrarium wins a prize.

Whole School in Community Development Activity: Enrichment

To plan to link your study of the ‘Evolving Planet’ to your ‘Whole School Development’ practices. Please design a poster on a proposed Change Project that could be developed at your school. This should contribute positively to the planet. The Change Project should focus on embracing the principles of the ESD and highlight the various role players that will form a part of the project.

Your proposed project could be recycling, food gardening or the re-use of water from school to irrigate crops in agriculture. Show how learners will form an important part of the Change Project process.

NB: No upload is needed for the above activity.
