Unit 5: Mosuelo seed sharing

In traditional cultures all over the world, families would always save the best seeds for the next summer or rainy season when food crops grew best. If they were not careful, the seeds would be eaten by weevils, the seeds would not germinate, and they would go hungry. Saving and storing seeds was thus one of the most important practices to ensure family health.

In this unit, we will focus on the concepts of seed sharing and saving.

Unit Objectives:
  • Define seed saving and Mosuelo.
  • Explore way to introduce seed saving, sharing and planting as a real-life matter of concern.
  • Develop practical skills such as making a pot out of recycled material, adding your own potting soil and transplanting your seedlings.
  • Understand the link between seed saving and Circular Economy.
