Partnerships and Collaboration
Fundisa for Change is a partnership-based programme founded on principles of collaboration, transformative learning and evaluative review of practice in order to build a national system of engagement to broaden and deepen capacity for environment and sustainability education in South African schools.
Environmental Sector Partners
Environmental sector partners contribute to conceptual guidance, development of materials, training of trainers, training of teachers, evaluation and research. They provide relevant environmental sector networking support and environmental content knowledge. These organisations include: Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA), GreenMatter, Environment Learning and Teaching and Delta Environmental Centre.
Higher Education Institutions
Higher education institutions contribute to conceptual guidance, development of materials, training of trainers, training of teachers, evaluation and research. They provide teacher education knowledge and system support. Thus far, they include: Rhodes University, Stellenbosch University, UNISA, University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, North-West University, University of Fort Hare, University of Zululand and University of Witwatersrand. Further partnerships are being developed as the programme unfolds.
Funding Partners
Some of the funding partners for the Fundisa for Change initiative include Murray & Roberts, the Lewis Foundation, the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
Participating Partners and Contributors
The Fundisa for Change teacher education partnership programme is made up of national state departments and national environmental organisations.
State and Parastatal Partners
State and parastatal partners contribute with policy sector engagement; funding of activities and support of training programmes; printing and distribution of materials (where possible); communication and network-building support.These include: South African National Parks (SANParks), South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), Department of Basic Education (DBE), Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
